Core Web Vitals are a confirmed ranking factor and most sites are failing
Google confirmed Core Web Vitals as a ranking factor in 2021 and has progressively weighted them more heavily since. The three metrics that matter are Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), which measures when the main content loads; Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), which measures visual stability; and Interaction to Next Paint (INP), which replaced First Input Delay in 2024 and measures how responsive the page is to user interaction.
Most sites we audit have at least two of the three in the failing or needs improvement range on mobile. The issues are usually specific and fixable: unoptimized images, render-blocking JavaScript, missing font preloading, third-party scripts loading synchronously, poorly specified image dimensions causing layout shift.
